Recovering the lost art and discipline of catechesis with music.

In his book, The Blessing of Catechizing Our Children, Joel Beeke wrote, “The catechisms not only teach basic Christian doctrine, but also show us how to live according to God’s law and how to pray. When we catechize our children, they learn the basic truths of Christian faith and living, and we reinforce and deepen our own knowledge of them.”

It was once commonplace for children to know the Shorter Catechism by heart from a very young age. But in our days of theological famine, most adults in the Christian church haven’t even heard more than a question or two from a catechism in their entire lives. This is why I’m setting all 107 questions of the Westminster Shorter Catechism to music that might be enjoyable to both adults and children. Many catechism settings are clearly designed to appeal only to children, but it’s not just the kids who need catechizing! We all do.

I’ll be working through setting and recording all 107 questions, Lord willing, over the next year or so. The first album of ten questions is already live everywhere you stream or listen to music (links below)!
