Also thanks to Troy Glessner at Spectre Studios for mastering, Pacific Studios for studio space, and everyone who made this album possible at Patreon and through the album fundraiser! Oh, and let’s not forget the thanks due to my wife and kids for dealing with my near-constant musical noise in every one of our living spaces, my brothers at New Christendom Press for quieting down (mostly) when I’m recording in the office next door, and Refuge Church for putting up with a pastor who’s always singing.
Psalm 149 (He Adorns The Humble With Salvation)
Praise ye the LORD!
Come and sing to Him a new song
His praise in the assembly of the saints
Let Israel rejoice in Him
That made him and be glad
Let Zion's children, in their King, rejoice!
Oh, let them praise His Name
with dancing, making melody
To Him with tambourine and lyre!
For God, the LORD,
He taketh pleasure in His people
He adorns the humble with salvation!
Let all of His saints,
come be joyful now in glory
Let them sing aloud for joy upon their beds
Fill up all their mouths
with the praises of their God
And set two-edged sword in all their hands
To execute His vengeance
on the wicked heathen nations
His punishments on every nation fall
To bind their kings in heavy chains,
Their nobles all in fetters
To execute on them the judgment told
Oh this is the honor due
to all the Lord's own saints
Praise ye the LORD
Psalm 117 (His Merciful Kindness)
O praise the Lord, all ye nations
praise him, all ye people
For his merciful kindness is great toward us:
And the truth of the Lord
endureth for ever
Praise ye the Lord
O praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
O praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
Psalm 148 (Ye Dragons, Sing His Praise)
Praise ye the LORD, on high!
From heav'n His glory raise
Ye angels in the heights
Him let His armies praise
Praise Him, ye sun and moon
Praise Him, ye stars of light
Praise Him, ye heaven's heav'n
Praise Him, ye waters high
Let them praise the Name of the LORD
For He did speak and they were made
Oh, He established them ever and aye
By His decree; it shall not pass away
Praise ye the LORD from earth,
Ye dragons, sing His praise
Ye deeps, fire, hail, and snow
Ye stormy winds that raise
On high to do His Word
and mountain fastness, high
Ye fruitful trees, be heard,
Ye cedars, noble, cry
Let them praise the Name of the LORD
For He did speak and they were made
Oh, He established them ever and aye
By His decree; it shall not pass away
Ye beasts and cattle, sing
All things that creep and fly
Ye princes, judges, and
ye Kings of earth, ye tribes
Young men, and maidens fair
Old men and children, too
Oh let them praise his name,
His holy name, anew
Oh, let them praise the Name of the LORD:
His Name alone, exalted be
His glory is forever and aye
O'er heav'n and earth—it shall not pass away
For He a horn has raised,
Salvation, drawing nigh
The praise of all His saints,
The sons of Israel cry
They are His people, all
Near to His grace, they are
Praise ye the LORD most High
Praise Him upon the heights
Psalm 3 (10,000 Foes)
O LORD, how many are my foes!
How many up against me rise!
They all are saying now of me,
“In vain he on his God relies.”
But you are my protector, LORD;
You are a shield around me spread.
My glory comes from you alone,
The one who raises up my head.
When to the LORD I lift my voice,
In face of those who hate me still,
The LORD will hear my cry to him
And answer from his holy hill.
I settle down and sleep in peace;
I wake in God’s upholding hand.
I will not fear ten thousand foes
Who circling round against me stand.
Arise, O LORD! Save me, my God!
Deliver for your mercy’s sake!
Strike all my en’mies on the jaw;
The wicked’s teeth in pieces break.
The LORD alone deliverance sends;
No other source of help have we.
Therefore upon your people all
May your eternal blessing be.
Psalm 91 (Thy Feet On Dragons)
He that doth in the secret place
of the most High reside,
Under the shade of Him that is
th'Almighty shall abide.
I of the Lord my God will say,
He is my refuge still,
He is my fortress, and my God,
and in Him trust I will.
Assuredly he shall thee save,
and give deliverance
From subtle fowler's snare, and from
the noisome pestilence.
His feathers shall thee hide; thy trust
under His wings shall be:
His faithfulness shall be a shield
and buckler unto thee.
Thou shalt not need to be afraid
for terrors of the night;
Nor for the arrow that doth fly
by day, while it is light;
Nor for the pestilence, that walks
in darkness secretly;
Nor for destruction, that doth waste
at noon-day openly.
A thousand at thy side shall fall,
on thy right hand shall lie
Ten-thousand dead; yet unto thee
it shall not once come nigh.
Only thou with thine eyes shalt look,
and a beholder be;
And thou therein the just reward
of wicked men shalt see.
Because the Lord, who constantly
my refuge is alone,
Ev'n the most High, is made by thee
thy habitation;
No plague shall near thy dwelling come;
no ill shall thee befall:
For thee to keep in all thy ways
His angels charge he shall.
They in their hands shall bear thee up,
still waiting thee upon;
Lest thou at any time should'st dash
thy feet against a stone.
Upon the adder thou shalt tread,
and on the lion strong;
Thy feet on dragons trample shall,
and on the lions young.
Because on me He set his love,
I'll save and set him free;
Because my great name he hath known,
I will him set on high.
He'll call on me, I'll answer him;
I will be with him still
In trouble, to deliver him,
and honor him I will.
With length of days unto his mind
I will him satisfy;
I also My salvation
will cause his eyes to see
Such Clever Follies
The nations rush as roaring seas;
they speak great things
They scheme and plot their vanity;
and multiply
Such clever follies; visions see
O man, so wise
O man, so wise
Oh, woman Folly—clanging, loud
a clanging thing
Barren as winter, bitter as
wormwood gall.
Oh, sons of men with bloody hands
and violent loves
Oh Molech's children, piling skulls
of little ones
Empires of dirt, fell kings of rust
Gehenna's lords
Gehenna's lords
But for all your words, O man
All your clever follies, and
Your Babels piercing clouds
You’re just dust and potter's clay
Kiss the son, lest in His way
He dash you to the ground
Who is this who speaks without
knowledge, and whose words abound
Who utters such great things?
Gird up now your loins and hear
Clever man, now learn to fear
In sackcloth, clothe yourself
But for all your words, O man
all your clever follies, and
Your babels piercing clouds
You’re just dust and potter's clay
Kiss the son, lest in his way
He dash you to the ground
Psalm 144 (A Fortress Is My Lord)
Oh, blessed be the LORD my strength,
Who trains my hands for war
And trains my fingers for the fight
A fortress is my Lord
He is my steadfast love and my
Deliverer, my tow'r
Subdueth peoples under me
My shield in whom I trust
Lord, what is man that you regard
the sons of men, at all?
For all his days are like a breath,
A passing shadow, small
O bow your heavens, LORD, come down!
And make the mountains smoke!
Flash forth your lightning, scatter them;
Thine arrows, shoot, them rout
Thine hand send from on high to save
me out of waters, great
And from the hand of foreigners,
Whose lying mouths deceive
A new song I will sing to Thee,
Upon the harp, I'll play
To Thee who gives the victory
unto the kings of men
You rescue from the cruel sword
Thy servant David, Lord
And me from lying foreigners
Whose lying mouths deceive
Rid me, O Lord my God, of them!
Their mouths speak vanity
For their right hand a right hand is
that works deceitfully.
And may our sons be in their youth
Like green plants, fully grown
Our daughters, in a palace wall
As polished corner stones,
O Lord make all our granaries full
our gardens give their yield
And make our sheep bring forth, abound
Ten-thousand in our fields.
Oh make our cattle heavy with
Their young—none fail to bear
That there be none to cry aloud
or in the streets despair
For happy are the people unto
Whom such blessings fall!
And happy all the people are
For whom the LORD is God!
Psalm 93 (O’er The Roaring Seas)
The LORD doth reign and clothed is He
He's clothed in majesty (in majesty)
The LORD has girt Himself with might
And clothed in strength is He (in strength is He)
The world is established;
And it shall not be moved
Thy throne is established
Of old—yea, Thou art too
O LORD, the floods have lifted up
The floods have lifted up their voice to Thee
The floods have lifted up their waves
And made a mighty noise—in their roaring
But the LORD, He is mightier than the roaring seas
The LORD, He is seated on high above the waves
His decrees, they are sure, they are perfect and trustworthy
Thy holiness, oh it becomes Thy dwelling place
Forever and evermore, ever and aye! Amen!
Forever and evermore, ever and aye! Amen!
Forever and evermore, ever and aye! Amen!
Aye, Amen!
Aye, Amen!
And aye, Amen!
Psalm 16 (In Thy Presence Is Fulness Of Joy)
O Lord, keep me; For I trust Thee
O my soul hath said to Thee
Thou art my Lord—though my goodness
Extendeth not to Thee
To the saints of earth, the excellent
In them Thou doth delight
But to those who fly to other gods
All their sorrows multiply
From their bloody off'rings, I will
Turn away, their names forsake
Thou art my cup, and my portion
Mine inheritance, my lot
The lines have fallen pleasantly
in pleasant places and
Thou hast given me a goodly place
and a goodly heritage
Bless the LORD who gives me counsel
And in seasons of the night
My own heart will counsel me, and
'fore me set the LORD for aye
For He stands at my right hand, so I
Shall not ever then be moved
So my heart is glad, my glory sings
And my flesh shall dwell secure
For my soul Thou will not leave in Hell;
Neither suffer wilt Thou to
Leave Thy Holy One in sepulcher
Or corruption leave unto
Thou wilt show me the path of life:
in Thy presence is fulness of joy;
At Thy right there are pleasures forevermore
Thou wilt show me the path of life:
in Thy presence is fulness of joy;
At Thy right there are pleasures forevermore
At Thy right there are pleasures forevermore
At Thy right there are pleasures forevermore
Psalm 120–121:1 (O Lord, Deliver Me)
In my distress, to God, I cried
And he gave ear to me
From guileful lips, from tongues that lie
O Lord, deliver me
What shall I give thee, O false tongue?
What shall I give to thee
Arrows, sharp from warriors, strong
And glowing coals of fire
Woe to me! For long I dwell
in Mesech and Kedar
So far away from Israel
A sojourner so long
Too long with him that hateth peace
Doth mine own soul abide
I am for peace, but when I speak,
To war they ever fly
I lift mine eyes up to the hills;
From whence my help doth come
He that made heav’n and earth will watch
And He will keep me strong
Psalm 72 (His Great Dominion Shall Extend)
O God, give justice to Thy king
His royal Son, Thy righteousness
With righteous judgment, shall he give
And to the poor, with uprightness
The mountains and the lesser hills
Shall peace unto Thy people bring
Together with prosperity
And peace, bring forth, by righteousness.
The poor ones of the people, judge
And save the children who have need
And their oppressors shall he break
In pieces by His mighty hand
They shall Thee fear, while sun endures
As well the moon, from age to age
As rain on mown grass, shall He fall
And water earth as showers do
The righteous flourish in His day
And prosper, they, in all His reign
And He, long as the moon remains
Will peace bring forth, and peace maintain
His great dominion shall extend
From sea to sea and even from
The River to the ends of earth
To earth's remotest regions run
May desert tribes bow down to him
And lick the dust, His enemies
The kings of Tarshish and the isles
Shall give Him gifts and offerings
O Sheba's king and Seba's king
Shall to Him royal tribute bring
May all the kings, before Him fall
All nations serve this righteous King.
For He delivers needy ones
And all who on Him crieth out
The poor also, He shall preserve
And those who have no help at all
He has great pity on the weak
And needy ones He ever saves
From violent deceit redeems,
Their blood is precious to His eyes
Long may He live and to Him send
All of the gold of Sheba's hoards
May prayer for him always be made
And daily shall He be extolled
May grain abound in all His land
And may the sheaves wave from the hills
Like fruited trees of Lebanon
May cities blossom like the fields
His name, forever, shall endure
And last, His fame, long as the Sun
In Him shall men of earth be blessed
And blessed by nations, shall He be
O bless the LORD of Israel
For He alone does wondrous things
And bless His glorious name fore’re
His glory fill the ends of earth
Amen! Amen! So let it be!
Amen! Amen! So let it be!
Amen! Amen! So let it be!
Amen! Amen! So let it be!
Men Of God, Take Up The Sword
O sing a new song to the Lord,
May tongues be loosed in praise
And sing the triumph of our King
Who ransomed Adam’s race
He trampled down and cancelled sin,
He rent the veil and saved
Became the record of our debt
And triumphed o'er the grave
O hear the mighty lion’s roaring,
Shaking hoary trees
The murdered Lamb, his scarlet blood,
Has broken winter’s teeth
The Woman’s Seed, though bruised and torn,
Did conquer and defeat
The ancient serpent's head, he crushed
Beneath his nail-pierced feet
The Saints, at Zion's mighty mount
The city of their God
With angels round, and festal shout
And Christ, who's sprinkled blood
Has set them up, there, higher far
Than Sinai's rugged peaks
In Christ, who filled up all the Law
And clothed them, white, and brings
Them to his table, sups with them
Forever and amen
So men of God, take up the sword
The Son of God goes forth
To bind the strong man fast in chains
And plunder all his goods
Glory to the Father, and
Glory to the Son
And glory to the Holy Ghost,
God Almighty, Three-and-One
So men of God, take up the sword
The Son of God goes forth
To bind the strong man fast in chains
And plunder all his goods
Glory to the Father, and
Glory to the Son
And glory to the Holy Ghost,
God Almighty, Three-and-One
God Almighty, Three-and-One
