Christians should make the best music—and not just the kind we sing in church.
Some of the greatest works of art, music, and architecture in human history were funded and produced by Christians. This shouldn’t surprise us. If Jesus is Lord, and if all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him, then those called by His name ought to be more acquainted with truth, goodness, and beauty than any others.
So why is the state of Christian music so abysmal? Why are the most popular releases with the tag “Christian” on the Spotify playlists all products of bland, emotionalistic megachurchianity Let’s change that. Let’s make great music for all of life. Music to sing in church and to dance with your wife in the living room.
Help me fund my next two albums, and we can take one more step in doing just that.
So here’s the plan:
Two albums.
Two concepts.
Hearth Songs (Now released! Thank you!)
A seven-song EP about the glory and beauty of normal, everyday Christian life.
Psalms (Spring/Summer 2024):
A full-length album of original Psalm settings and more.
What? $25k?!
Believe it or not, the total cost for producing these two albums will be more like $36,000 by the time I’m done, but I’ve set aside all of the sales from my last Psalms album, Even Dragons Shall Him Praise, to help cover production costs here.
Making a professional-level record isn’t easy or cheap, but I believe it’s worth it.
You and your family will be shaped, for better or worse, by those things which you behold—by the art, architecture, music, and culture you soak in. This is why it is imperative that Christians pour themselves into making the rich, enduring kind of culture, not the cheap, shallow, plastic kind that is often produced.
We can do this.
If my music has blessed you, your family, or your church, here’s my request: Vote for it with your dollars.
We get more of what we support. If we send Bethel a few million dollars for every dollar we put into Christian music that doesn’t suck, we will get more Bethel and fewer Psalms and songs worth singing.
So vote for this project with your dollars and let’s make this happen together. If even a portion of my normal listeners voted for the project financially, we would get it funded in a day or two.
Below are a few ways you can do that:
